Traveling to Mexico Post-Pandemic

Heading across international borders could be a bit worrisome, especially if you never have traveled internationally before or if you haven't traveled since the pandemic. Mexico is one of the most traveled to countries by US citizens. Not to worry, we're here to help along the way.

Air travel to Mexico is easy by following these easy-to-know steps:

STEP 1: It's NOT REQUIRED to provide a COVID FOR MEXICO, just a good practice.

STEP 2: Fill out the tourist card online prior to travel OR fill out on the plane. Make sure to keep the bottom half as it’s needed for the departure flight. This is not a new covid requirement, but has always been around. www.mexicotouristcard.com

STEP 3: The collection of a new tax has started (state of Quintana Roo only which includes, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum)

As of April 1, 2021, the payment of a visitor tax by foreign tourists visiting the State comes into force.

This payment applies to travelers from 15 years of age and older and can be made before, during or after your trip through the VISITAX website, where the amount of $ 224 Mexican pesos must be paid. I believe it is around $10 USD or so per person.

Once the payment is made, the voucher must be downloaded and shown at the airport before leaving Mexico.

If you forgot to pay during your trip, don't worry, there will be staff at the airport that can assist you to do so. When entering the website: https://www.visitax.gob.mx, you will be asked to fill out a form with the following information:

â–ª Number of people traveling

â–ª Name, age, and passport number individually

â–ª Departure date

â–ª Make the electronic payment in a secure way

If you travel as a family or in a group, you can make the payment in a single transaction and generate individual receipts, but you must make sure you complete all the information requested in the form.

STEP 4: Make an appointment for your COVID PCR test upon check-in to the resort, if they will let you. This is needed for return to the US.

STEP 5: When (hopefully negative) covid test results are received, if possible upload them to the airline’s app, and if available, fill out the attestation form. If not possible on the airline’s app, make sure to have a printed copy of results with name as it appears on passport and birthdate correct. If attestation form is not on the airline’s app, print the form and fill it out and bring with you for departure. https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/pdf/attachment-a-global-passenger-disclosure-attestation-2021-p.pdf

STEP 6: 12 hours or less prior to departure, fill in the health questionnaire and screenshot or save the QR code. It is necessary to do a quick register on the website: https://www.vuelaseguro.com/login

If your COVID test is positive, you will be re-tested to see if you possibly had a false negative. Then, it will be decided if you should extend your stay. Extension policies for COVID vary by resort and by travel protection policies. Should this instance occur, please consult your travel advisor or travel protection policy's company for more information.

Travel is a bit different now but by knowing what to expect, you can be prepared to make the process as smooth as possible.
